WHAT IS THE APPLICATION PROCESS?

Acceptance and placement depend upon review of the application papers submitted. All application forms are available here. (hyperlink to admission page)

The documents to submit for review are:

  • Child’s birth certificate/ copy of passport /ID.
  • 2 passport size photographs.
  • School leaving certificate (If appropriate).
  • Report cards of the past 2 academic years.

Following the interview and review of these materials the Head of Schools inform the parents of the school’s decision.

WHEN IS THE APPLICATION DEADLINE?

As spaces are limited early application in January/February are recommended for July entry. Returning students have a re-registration period across January, while new students will sit for assessments in February – usually February 1-15 – for the new academic year. However, as we are an international school applications are accepted year-round for the international programs, and applications made throughout the academic year will be reviewed on an individual basis.

The Arabic section’s schedule will follow the national schedule dictated by the Ministry of Education. Early registration is recommended in order to reserve seats and prepare for the new year – books and uniforms will be prepared for and collected by each student before the academic year begins.

WHAT ARE THE SCHOOL HOURS?

For administration & staff, the school runs Saturday—Thursday, and the hours are:

  • 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

For students, the school runs Sunday—Thursday, and the hours are:

  • 7:15 a.m. — 2:00 p.m. for grade 1 – 11
  • 7:15 a.m. — 1:40 p.m. for Kindergarten

The Daycare runs Sunday—Thursday, and the hours are:

  • 7:15 a.m. — 4:00 p.m.

WHAT IS THE CLASS SIZE AND THE STUDENT TO TEACHER RATIO?

School-wide, class sizes range from 20 to 25 students per class – up to 20 students for the international sections and up to 25 students for the Arabic section. In kindergarten, a limit of 23 students is placed on class size, barring exceptional circumstances. Kindergarten and the Primary section (English) have teacher’s assistants while all other grades have subject teachers and specialist teachers for music, art, physical education, computer classes, cultural studies, and etiquette. In the Secondary School, every effort is made to keep the number of students per classroom to 25 or below.

WHAT IS THE SCHOOL YEAR?

The school year runs from early July to late April for the international (English) sections. The Arabic section follows the national schedule dictated by the Ministry of Education, normally starting in September.

WHERE ARE YOUR SCHOOLS LOCATED?

SIGS currently has 5 sections – in 4 buildings – which are all located in Al Manshiya, Khartoum.

  • The Kindergarten and Daycare sections are located in the same building along Al Doha street across from Al Manshiya Mosque — open in Maps.
  • The Primary section is located around the middle of Al Manshiya next to Zuzu land theme park — open in Maps.
  • The High School section is located on the way to Manshiya bridge next to the stop or junction in the turn at Drops pharmacy — open in Maps.
  • The Arabic section is next to Al Doha street on the way to the Chinese and Qatar embassy — open in Maps.
